ok I have an ECS k7SEm micro atx motherboard with a duron 750mhz(made in 1999). In the bios I can only set the
fsb/ram/pci

default is: 100/100/33
posted @: 7.5 x 100 = 750mhz

so I set it to:
112/112/34
posted@ 7.5x112 = 840mhz
everything worked great.

Now I want to go higher! But I'm locked at 7.5. I tried the unlocking thing, but I dunno if it worked or not cuz I can't change the multiplier! So how do I change the multiplier on the chip??

It involves the L6 bridges. Run a search on google for "Athlon L6 Bridge Mod" and that should give you what you are looking for. Although I don't know how to cut any bridges. I don't have one of those special-wecial "lazers"

You can also do it by cutting the traces on the motherboard going to and coming from the FSB to manually alter the multiplier setting. You have to add 8 jumpers or switches. There are several articles on the web about it, mainly with the MSI kt7a pro board that did not have factory mult. controls. I was going to do this but broke down and spent $100 on a good board with bios controls.

I would highly recommend NOT doing this. To much risk. ONe little mess-up and the board is toast.

in tomshardware guide it said u can use the l6 bridges to change multipliers. Will this work? and also what if it wants u to change a ' | ' to a ' : ' how would u go about making the bridge 2 dots instead of a connected one?

you would have to somehow scrap throught the connection-id use a exacto knife and make a few lite cuts through the line-but not deep enough to go into the ceramic-make like 3 on every bridge and youll surely get it

somewhere, I think on anandtech, I saw that they used a very fine diamond tipped drill, I think attached to a dremel to cut the bridges. You can try an x-acto knife, but I think they might be a lot stronger than that.

good luck, and don't slip :-)

ok but what if it doesn't work at a certain multiplier and I want to UNDO everything back to the regular bridges? I would be F***ed wouldn't I?

Watch your language, young son.

As for being in trouble, you can reconnect the bridges, using either a #2 pencil, or you can use a conductive pen, like they use for connecting the rear windshield defoggers on cars, or connecting circuit board traces. Either way will work. You can solder them if you have a steady hand and a fine point soldering iron.

what about the pencil markings? do I just use an eraser?! wouldn't that smear it or take out the bridges?!

Do you think an exacto knife could cut through ceramic?
