View Full Version : Need advice for getting most out of my new machine
My new machine is as follows:
Coolermaster ACTS 200 case (with 4x80mm fans)
Asus A7M266 motherboard
Athlon 1.4Ghz
2x256MB Crucial DDR PC2100 DIMMS
2x IBM 75GB drives
I would like to get the most out of this machine and I have seen people overclock Athlons very well. Could someone tell me what cooling options I have and the prices of the options. I'm interested in details right from what is the best hsf to liquid nitrogen solutions! Any advice would be most appreciated.
Regards.

Well personally that seems like a good case-id go this route. 10.5x133 is the settings of that chip is assume, de;ending on what HS you are using you should be able to up the FSB to over 145+ with that DDR mem. Is it cas2 or cas2.5?. So start upping the FSB till it wont boot-then back it down a notch till it is stable again, up the core voltage by 0.5 1 or 2 times and see if it gets stabel again- if it does keep upping the FSB till you hit the memory limit-then try upping the multiplier if you can. Actually you might have to drop the multiplier to get the highest FSB possible. The average Overclock for that chip is 1617, an the fastest is 1988. id try maybe 11x150 or 12x145
Thanks for all the useful info. Do you have a heatsink and fan that you recommend for my setup? I have the stock one which I assume is pretty poor but I also sometimes leave the machine on overnight so I'd like something that doesn't sound like Concorde taking off!
I would suggest an SK-6 with a quiet fan. 1coolpc.com has the SK-6 with an 80mm fan which they claim is pretty quiet yet it puts out as much air as a 60mm 7000rpm fan.

Defiantaly if ya want maximum cooling go for the Thermaright SK6 and a good fan maybe a YS tech or something-id change out to an 80mm if ya can find a quiet one but a 60 shoud do fine with the case cooling that you got.

these 3 site show HS along with SK6-personally id get the one wiht the tunnel adapter
That looks like a very impressive heatsink. However, with a fan on top, does it still meet the AMD requirement of it being under 300grams?
