Well, my purchasing scedule has been accelerated by this news of locked Bartons. I'm heading down to my local computer joint tomorrow to try and snag an unlocked 2500+ before it's too late. I already know that week 39 or later CPUs could be locked. But what stepping should I look for for maximum overclockability? I've heard good things about AQXEAs. Thanx in advance!

Any week 0338 or before.

Really? I just read a post the other day claiming that the newer Bartons are better. I've read of good results with the 2500+ AQZEA.

They aren't better if you can't change the multiplier.

Look in the CPU dBase. that tends to yeild documented facts as to which steppings people HAVE use to get good OC's.

This is true. Was the date you showed the cut-off point where they began locking the CPU's?

I think it starts at week 39 and foward..

Even though the newer Bartons are multi-locked, they still have more overclocking potential than older CPUs. You simply have to use the FSB to max it out - don't worry, P4 users have been doing it for years and they're quite happy.

There are absolutely no "documented facts" in any overclocking database. They're terribly unorganized and offer no indication whatsoever about what a particular stepping is capable of.

I don't know if the AQFEA or other wierd steppings tend to do much better than the AQXDA and AQXEA. I know AQZEA tends to do pretty well.

All of those can pretty much do 2.2GHz at more or less stock voltage. Above that, it's luck of the draw.

Hurry!
