Hmmm ... 604s have an extra pin? ;)

I'm not exactly sure, but they may be different revisions of the Xeon core. Tried googling, or Intels website?

The extra pin is mechanical and is found on the 533FSB models only. 603s will typically run in 604 boards, check the manufacturer's site to be sure. There are overclocking options for getting to 533FSB with 400FSB chips, but not all will work. See an article here for more information:

604= 533FSB

603= 400FSB


Socket 604 motherboard are backwards compatible with 400FSB Xeon's but not vice versa.
