well first i cracked my 600 athlon chip then today i crushed the die on 2 sides of my new 700 (800 core).
i just got it to 1000mhz stable after soldering to get to 1/3 L2cache. but that wasnt enough, i just HAD to take it out once more to lap the water block and thats when i heard the beautiful sound of crushing glass kinda lol
so its off to indianapolis again tomorrow to find another.
god i love this stuff!!!!!!! :)
Time to find a slot T-bird or move along to a socket setup. Sorry to hear the bad news. [img="http://forums.overclockers.ws/forums/Public/Images/Default/E16.gif"]

I hope you still tried to boot the chip up after you chipped it. Most of the time I know a chipped chip is dead. Maybe it is just my uncanny luck (knocking very hard on wood no where near my computer) but both the duron and tbird below look like i tried to mount the heatsinks with a hammer and they both still fire up. Hope you gave a try before you bailed on that chip.
Merlins right. My trusty 600 Duron looks afright and my 1000 Tbird is getting there. Too many clip type HSFs have passed over them. They both kick butt though.

How can I keep my chip from cracking? I have a 1.33 t-bird with a M. Galaciator. I guess be carefull when you mount it.

My friend and i built his computer, he is still learning, He had some cheepy heatsink and fan on there that wasnt giving him enough cooling power. He told me that the guy at the store told him it was the best fan on the market. So i took him to a store and they had a Goldwin fop38 sitting on the shelf with a delta fan(Never seen them in a store) and he wanted to go ahead and put the Heatsink and fan on his AMD tbrid 1.33 and he cracks the core putting it on. Just the sides of the core. It was a pretty nice crack i mean you can tell. So i decided to go ahead and try to see if it works and i works like it did before.
Screw the AMD chipset. Get yourself a nice Abit KG7 (if you dare, it's new so any bugs probably haven't been found yet) or if you don't want a hassle, an easy-to-setup Asus A7V266. Both are socket DDR boards.

The KG7 is an AMD chipset. It's the 761 Same as the all the other DDR boards out with the exception of the ALI chipset. Which I thinks pretty fast and stable. Only thing I don't like about my Asus A7A is the core voltage tops out at 1.85 and I can't adjust my I\O voltage. Other then that it's great and very fast IMO.
Of course this is my first AMD system so I guess I'm a little new with it all yet. But I did build my dads system which is almost the same as mine but with an Abit KT7A board. My system spanks his in speed with cpu's at same speed.

i cant believe this chip still works!
just 4 the hell of it i hit the power button and it came on.
its been down for 2 days now. i had to shut it off fast cause i had the pcb in there with no waterblock or hsf.
(just the way i left it after i gave up on her).
what the hell would cause it not to work... then be fine after 2 days?????
hoot and merlins_wraith were right and i was WAY WRONG! LOL
any ideas?
ps and of course my slot 750 t-bird will be here monday lol.
(fedex was supposed to deliver today)
