View Full Version : Can't decide, help :)
I am putting together a machine and I wanted to know what video card of these two I should use:
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 128MB
or
ATI All-In-Wonder 9700 PRO AGP8x/FX BUS
I also need to decide between Windows 2KPRO or Windows XP Home. Rest of my system:
P4 3.0 w/ 800FSB
ASUS PFC800-E Deluxue
4 sticks of PC-3700 512 MB Kingston HyperX ram
3 Regular case fans and a Thermaltake SILENT POWER
If i read that correctly... no doubt get the 9700.
Does the All-In-Wonder have different drivers than the regular 9700?
eh?! those 2 cards are not even remotely in the same performance or budget range... the 9700 is many times the speed of that 5200...
As for difference between the XP Home and Pro, have a look at these pages: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/howtobuy/choosing2.asp
If you were choosing between Pro versions of XP and 2000, then I'd say definitely get XP Pro, but it becomes a bit harder when you need to choose between XP Home and 2000 Pro.
One issue with XP Home is that it does not support SMP and so probably won't support Hyperthreading.

Why would you even consider a geforcefx5200 against a radeon 9700 pro? There is no doubt, get the 9700pro aiw.
I wasn't sure about the All-In-Wonder, thanks for the help :)
Again, will the regular 9700pro drivers work with the all-in-wonder card?

Catalyst works with all Radeons. Btw, the 9700 compares to the 5900ultra in many ways. The 5200 is about as fast as a radeon 7500, perhaps a tad bit slower. Also, the 9700AIW should be ~$300, and the 5200 ~$50. Why did you even compare the two?
Because I == Newbie and I happen to have both ;)

yea if you have an all in wonder you need to install normal cat's and then the multimedia center(whatever it is :)) and the rest of the aiw drivers they have on their site.

the fx5200 is a bit slower than a ti200. the 9700 pro should eat a ti4600 quite easily. of course the price differences are as big as the performance differences :(
