Ok, I need a new motherboard and i would like to be able to overclock with it as well as get a good one. What is a good motherboard for overclocking that will take a duron 650 to over an athlon 1.2gig? And how much might that motherboard run me.

thanks for the help,
Uluse

get that duron 650 to 1.2? Thats probably not going to happen. First you must decide on whether you want a SDRAM mobo or a DDR mobo. If you want DDR the Epox 8k7a (i think that is the model number, anyways its the Epox ddr mobo) is the best one for overclocking. It runs around $130 for the non raid version. If you want an SDRAM mobo the IWILL KK266 is the best. It runs around $115. there are other sdram mobos that are very good and very close to the IWILL. Those includ the ABIT KT7A, the Asus A7V133, and the MSI K7T Turbo.

I'm running on an ASUS A7V RAID, and I love it. For prices, pricewatch is usually about the cheapest. Take for example the Asus A7A266 which was listed for $129 today.

"...In addition to significantly enhancing system performance with support of the latest DDR SDRAM, the ASUS A7A266 offers flexibility by also supporting PC133 SDRAM. AMD Athlon/Duron processors of 500MHz up to 1.2+ GHz..." This would be a very nice board, because you can use cheaper SDRAM. DDR doesn't offer a big performance difference in all areas, so check what you'll be using the computer for before you buy. I'm sure there are other boards that are just as good as Asus, i'm just partial to them. Just stick around in the forums for a while, and you'll figure out what to get.

Ok guys thankyou for the help. no I didnt want to push my duron 650 to 1.2Mhz. =) but i'd like to be able to push it alittle bit until i need the 1.2Mhz or faster processor. then ill go buy the faster one. And i already have 384megs of 133 SDram and ill probably be using that so a Motherboard that runs SDram would be better.

William, who makes the IWILL KK266 and do they have a website so i can get the specs on it? I would very much like to compare that with the asus and the Abit.

Right now I have a Gigabyte and the Bios wont let me change the multiplier but its a great motherboard other than that. heh heh

Thanks for the help guys,
