ok so i got board on a sunday so i decided to lapp my heatsink.
So about 2 hours later i get a mirror finish and then i polish it.
so my question is how much asc5 should i use on a lapped heatsink.
also what are the pads for that came with the heatsink i got 4 white pads and 2 black stips pads?? so what are they for thx
I don't use the white pads but they go under the heatsink. The strips are to quiet the fan. They go between the fan and the heatsink. I don't use those either. :p As for the AS, use the search. It has been covered many times and is also on the website. :)

you shouldn't have polished it, the 4 white pads go on the 4 dimples on the base of the heatsink so it doesn't tilt and chip your core, teh black strips go under your fan to absorb vibrations.

Why are you saying this? Most people agree heatsinks cool better that way. On my previous heatsink, it lowered temps by 4 or 5 degrees. (On this one I don't know because I never ran it stock)

he should have lapped it, but not polished it. As the polish will displace where the AS should go, thereby lowering performance and raising temps.
did you polish it by rubbing, or using chemicals? its not recommended to use chemicals to polish a heatsink because it impedes heat transfer, but its ok to polish it by sanding and rubbing....
@POL-tec2002 is this your second post about the same topic? i already replied in the other thread, just use a very thin layer and follow the directions on thier site.

half a grain of rice worth is usually too much, but you'll get some on your scraper or plastic bag when spreading it, so it turns out okay.

POL-tec2002, to remove the polishing compound, use some acetone, laquer thinner, alcohol, or other evaporative solvent and a clean rag to get most of it off, and then spend a couple minutes lapping with the finest sandpaper again.
yea the best way would be to relap and take off the layer of polish.... and remember to use a very small amount of thermal compound. rub the thermal compound in like you rubbed in the polish :p
