I am in the market for a new chip please give me your opinion. I already have an Epox8K7A, and Crucial 2100 ram, and have a few ?'s
1. With all the problems with cores being cracked, should I go retail.
2. Should I go with 200 or 266 bus.
3. If I use the pencil unlocking method, will I be able to clean the chip and
RMA to AMD if something legitamently goes wrong.
4. I plan on overclocking, but not to the extreme, should I get a 1ghz or a 1.2
(I would like to goto 1.4 with a good HSF)
This is alot to ask, and some of which has been asked before, but I would appreciate your input.

Thanks

1) No, definately go OEM, cheaper, just get a non-conductive shim for 8 bucks
2) defiantely 266 bus, a lot faster.
3)Yes, all you need is some rubbing alcohol and the pencil will be gone :)
4)Get a 1.2 AXIA stepping, with a Millenium Glaciator or a CAK38, you should hit 1.4 pretty easily then. (And the 1GHz's are cheaper)

Hope it helps

Goto www.pricewatch.com and get an OEM cpu 1.2Ghz for $97 and 1Ghz for $76. I suggest a good cooler like Global win WBK-38,Swiftech coolers,Gladiators,www.millisec.com for cooling hsfs DONOT GET A SHIM I burnt my CPU with one.

Now with a good HSF can I hit 1.4 with a 1gig or would that require a bit of luck?, if I can, why buy a 1.2? Going off of the CPU database, and air cooling there is not much difference in mid-range overclocking results.

I got an 1ghz AXIA-9 @1400 10x140 1.90v working like a dream no lockups for 2 days, But go slow on bring the speed up and make sure you have got good case cooling and a good HSF on that CPU.
