Im trying to put together a quick file server based off a p4 or p4 based celeron. Ive got a stick of 512 pc3000, I could also used my old pc2100 sticks for dual channel, would rather go dual channle incase I upgrade cpus later on. Basically this cpu will run all day and night, or whenever needed, will do some ftp hosting, bunch of storage though.

I was thinking about a 2gh celeron, upping it to 133 fsb giving me a 2.6. I know these arent that good but it should get the job done. Now all I need is a decent dual channel board, something cheap and efficient ans stable ;). Now I know intel boards are the best stable things out there, but I cant set my fsb to 533 on a 400fsb chip cant I?

If anyone has a better option I could take please post it. I only need the cpu and board.

nope. FSB increases should be done in 1mhz intervals. You'll most likely only be able to up it 5-10%.

If you're interested in saving money go with an Athlon XP 1700+ for only $40. File serving doesn't use any CPU power and the XPs are just as easy to cool as P4s.

I second that if you get a T-Bred you can run the voltage super low and possably passive cool it. :p and you can use your dual channel on a nForce2 based board, the Albatron (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduct.asp?description=13-170-006&depa=1) has video and lan with the nForce2 chipset.
