problems with on board sound card

ok, so all of a sudden, i reboot my computer finish setting up my DSL and now my sound doesnt work. i keep getting
DirectSound output v2.2.6 error.
Bad DirectSound Driver. Please install proper drives or select another device in configuration. error code: 88780078

now i have reinstalled the driver and even went to abits website to see if there was one that was newer. nothing. it still doesnt work. short of getting a new sound card, what should i do. and if i do need a new sound card, whats good and cheap. (i know those 2 dont always go together either.) soundblaster live maybe? thanks guys.

in System properties remove all the sound card drivers. Reboot the machine and let windows detect and install. That might work... otherwise check if the IRQ of the Network card your DSL runs isn't conflicting with the sound card...
