I was wondering what you guys thought of using standard athlons in a dual board (not athlon mp aka palamino) Ive been told that this will work but it just wont do smp. Any ideas?

I remember reading a post that somebody did make t-birds work in a dual setup, try doing a search through CPU's. I would be curious if this can work.
Regular athlons most definitely work, but I don't think durons do for some reason. Spode was playing around with a Tyan board but he couldn't get dual durons to work. I bet a bios update would cure everything.
If thats true, not having SMP defeats the purpose.

not necissarily ... how many aps do you have that actualy are smp... I have 1 You would still have twice as much computing power you just cant take advantage of smp aps
Regardless what application you are running Win2k it is going to execute a thread on whichever processor is available at the moment. Its not like the olden days of NT where it was dependant on the application to be SMP capable. SMP in 2k is nothing like it was in NT.
Shoot me if I'm wrong :)
