Hi. I am trying to setup a PCMCIA Serial card for my laptop.. .FOr ease and convenience I want to set it up on com 1, but when I go to device manager to configure it, it says that is reserved...

How can I see which hardware device has reserved the com port??

The modem uses com4

this is a toshiba p25-s487. The laptop has no serial port

I know htat if I set up the pcmcia serial in com 2, no other device can be configured as com 2 and thus reserved, even if it is not installed or connected to the pcmcia.. I would like to know: which peice of hardware is using it, reserving it and/or 2) how can I change this reserving..

Big thanks in advance

Ah this is windows xp pro!

if you want which one is FREE or INACTIVE, here is a FREE way of doing it

go to device manager, see your modem ???? double click on it

see "advanced port setting" ??? click on it

see "COM Port number" arrow down??? when you click this arrow down, it will tell you which one is inused and which one is FREE

there you go
