Hey guys, this is my first time posting to this board and I have a question...

I just purchased an Abit KT7A mobo and a AMD 1.2 Ghz Tbird...
I have a 250 Watt PSU (Plan to Upgrade) but every time I try to turn on the computer nothing happends at all. All I get is a blank screenon my monitor. I know that the power supply isn't friend because it works fine with my old mobo and CPU

I also have a TNT 2 ULTRA 32 MEG and some Generic ram that also work fine with my old mobo...

Once powered on the fans and all work on the mobo but all I get is a blank screen...

I need help on this one guys before I go crazy and beat my computer up with a bat !! Could it be because not enough power, the ram, or the vid card (I don't see how). Is the mobo or CPU dead???

Any help would be appreciated thanks a lot in advance

I reallu enjoy reading this Forum because I learn alot from you all :)

Oh and one more thing to add is that this dude at the store put some sort of stupid warranty sticket over the two rubber pads on the edge over the CPU, could that be causing the probelm?
I am scared to take it off because it will void the warranty but who will tell :)

Welcome to the forums,
Take evrything apart again and start over, you may think this is silly, but this may help. Make sure your ram is at least PC-100, all the power wires is connected correctly and there are no jumper that you may not know about on the board itself. Did you run the chip without the heatsink? Anything else happen out of the ordinary?

Thanks for the reply

I used the HSF I got with the processor, it's really huge and it was on the processor when I turned it on....
The memory is PC 100 but I have 3 sticks of it 64, 64, 32....

One question, does there have to be a harddrive connected for the mobo to post??

Thanks I will look around in the manual to see all the jumpers and that they are properly connected.
Any other suggestions would be welcome

Dude,
Check your fsb, check to see if your processor is seated correctly, also check your mem. sticks for the same thing. Your power supply sounds a little shakey I think T-Birds require a 300 wtt. power supply my bird is overclocked and I am running of a 300wtt. power supply.

i read somewhere on the forums that i think it was 1.1Ghz or 1.2+ must run on a 300w PSU and u said your running 250 and it worked with your old config......what are the specs for the other config?

Maybe there is a jumper for the speed of the ram?. I am not all that familiar with your board but I will give it a go, overclokering is overclocking in my book. No you don't need a H/D to post. Is your powersupply a 110/230 volt? Most homes are 110volts and the switch on the back should reflect this. Do you get any sounds at all? Like beeps, chirps? Any lights flicker, flash? That powersupply should be just barely enough to power everything. Are you sure your heatsink is on correctly? Who put it on? The kid at the computer store?
I would look at the H/S fan combo to make sure it was done properly.

The light for the hd goes on and stays on for about 10 secs than shuts of

The PSU is 110/230 and it's set to 110

The *kid* that put the CPU and HSF on the mobo is me :P
but since this baord is jumperless I don't see anything saying jumpers with the memory..
How can I change the fsb if I can't get into the BIOS
Like I said it's jumperless, I mean this is ABIT we are talking about :)

its the power supply
for anything 1 gig or bigger on a t bird you will need a 400 watt power supply or bigger

Well not to say ALL 18yo are kids..LOL. Have you started over? Take everything apart and re-assemble. This has worked for me in the past. You should rule this out first. Have you tried to clear the CMOS? Take the battery out for awhile and try that, I am running out of ideas.

Thanks for all the help guys I will try to rebuild the whole thing from scratch, and remove the battery for like 10 mins to see if it posts.

Again thanks for all the ideas..
And Azzkicker I don't want to argue but a friend of mine has a 1.33 and is using a 250 WATT PSU in running it so I don't think mine would affect the CPU that bad that it wouldn't even POST :)
Anyways, Azzkicker thanks for the suggestion, I know your only trying to help out and I appreciate it.

I would get a better H/S-fan combo and 300+watt powersupply if you plan to overclock. Good Luck!

AZZKIKER is rite I have a 1.4Ghz athlon and it would freeze with a 300watt powerman powersupply go get an ENERMAX 465P-VE psu or ANtec 400watt at Pricewatch.com gl...

And now azzkicker can pull his head out too... :D

BTW I also ran with a generic 300 watt prior to going w/350
see siggy!

i HATE to ask this rediculous question, but since your computer comes on for 10secs....is your HSF fan plugged into the FAN1 header??? if it is not, you will get 3 beeps and 10secs of running then a shut off...make sure that it is, you may find that that is your only prob
