This is what I've got on my Christmas list:

Abit NF7-S rev2.0
2500+ Barton (any suggestions on the stepping? Don't want a locked one particularly)
2x256MB Mushkin Black PC 3500

I really need a new burner but I'll wait and get that and a
DVD-ROM on my own later. Suggestions, opinions?

Nice choice on the barton!! you can't really go wrong with that cpu, had mine clocked up to a 2800+ from day one and have had no probs.

Better find that Barton NOW. Don't think there will be a chance of finding an unlocked one come Christmas...

Actually, if I were you, I'd get a tbred B and a new mobo, that alone will get you're 3DM01 up to around 17500.

Word....

Can't help on the stepping, sorry. I would probably go for the Corsair ram instead, but that's just me...

If by "burner", you mean "CD-burner" and not "dvd-burner", i would add that to your list. You can't use a pc without a CD-RW drive

If you mean a dvd-burner, they are also useful.... I got one a while back, lovely for backing up data :) much better than that stack of 11 or so CD-Rs piling up that i had to copy and arrange to the hard drive every time i formatted

Then again, a secong HDD for backup is better than the dvd-writer... i got a 60gb a while back for backup and it's SOO much easier than all the backup procedures i used to have to go through... just put all your files to backup onto the 2nd HDD and occasionally burn it all onto disks to be sure :)

I've definitly decided on the Barton, I've got a TbredA right now and since I'll be leaving this new CPU at stock settings for a while, it'd be kind of pointless to get a new Tbred. Plus I think the extra cache will be more and more useful as new games come out. Lastly I like the idea of being able to run 3200+ speeds with just a bump up to 200Mhz fsb and decent cooling.

ArBiTaL, I meant CD-RW. I wouldn't use a DVD burner enough to justify spending that much, especially when I can get Plextor CDRW and DVD-ROM for ~$80. Also, why would you go for the Corsair? Mushkin Black dual channel seems to be the cream of the memory crop right about now.

On the Barton issue, I'm sure some online retailer will stockpile unlocked Barton's and sell them for a bit extra just like they're doing with DL3TC chips now. Even if I can't find one, the fsb is still unlocked, and that will get me to 3200+ specs easy enough.

Yea, the barton is a good idea :)

You are probably right, just ignore me. When i got my ram, the corsair was the best, but i don't really keep up with the hardware and it's probably changed by now. Mushkin is a good brand, don't get me wrong, i was just thinking back to what was the bast when i got mine, but that was like 9 months ago lol.... Yea, get the Mushkin :)
