My Call of duty is crashing and dropping to a blank screen. I was about to ask on here what was up with my 9800 because it only happens when I am in single player and not very often online.

I noticed ATI released a hotfix for the 3.9 cats and I am going to try this.

Well, they let me play longer, but Call of duty still crashes on me after a while.

This is the only game I have problems in, so I am not sure if it is Dirext X 9 or not now. This is also the only Direct X 9 game I have.

I played Gothic 2 for like 2 hours with no problems.

It does seems to be the norm for ATI to always have something that is not stable with their drivers. I never had issues with NVIDIAs drivers.

simple fix, use cat 3.8, 3.7, 3.6, 3.5, 3.4, etc... until you find one that works(btw Call of Duty = pwnage)

the best thing I can say is try to go back to the realy great 3.7's.

I think that the cat 3.9's were rushed out the door.
too bad for all of us.

maybe ATI needs to understand that nVidia's stance on giving out beta drivers is a good policy....that is what I feal that the new drivers are like anyway.

the newer cat's will mostly take forever to come out...to work out the dumb bugs.

How do I go back to an older version though? Can I just install them over the 3.9's?

I had the same problem with the 3.9's in ALL my games crashing back to my desktop (BF1942 , GENERALS , etc) .

I re-installed the 3.7's and all is FINE . No more problems at all .

I suggest going back to the 3.7's .

*edit*

On a side note ; I notice my card runs ALOT cooler with the 3.7's verses the dreaded 3.8's and still pretty warm with the 3.9's

Thanks, I went back to the 3.7's and it all seems okay. Guess the 3.8 and 3.9's are really buggy.

IIRC, ATI works on a 3 week release schedule for their drivers. The 3.9s were right on time according to that schedule, afaik.

The Rage3d forums are a great wellspring of knowledge regarding drivers.

Well I guess it all depends on what games you're playing.
If you don't play Jedi Knight Academy I suggest you go with cat 3.7.

So far, the Cat 3.7 seem to work the best for me too.

I mentioned the Cat 3.9s were bad 3 days after they came out. I guess no one heeds my warnings. The only ones I can get to work with my card without artifacting Madden 2004 out are the Cat 3.7s and lower. I sure hope ATI starts fixing these problems soon...I love their cards...but their drivers are starting to suffer

Everyone should listen to him. I just tried it, and it fixed my problem in COD.
