I think I know the aqnswer to this but I'll throw it out anyway.
The vendor backs my new processor for 30 days and it is then backed by AMD.. for however long that is!
In the event that something is wrong with it, do you think the 30 day warranty would still be honored if I connected the L1s right away, or should I wait 30 days?
Or maybe just try it as-is first, then connect them?
Ahh, what the heck, it's only $80. I really don't want to wait.
What you people think??

Personally, I would test it first to make sure it isn't DOA, and then do the bridges.

Ditto!! Make sure the badboy works first, then unlock it.

yup i agree
test it at its stock first (30days)
then unlock it and go for broke
i think the AMD warranty is for three years, but im uncertain
anyways,if u do fry it,rub off the pencil(this is why i use pencil)
and take it back "it just stopped working"
usually AMD will rma chips and replace it for free
with no cost to you or your local retailer

OK, thanks all.

I'll try it stock first, maybe let it run all night.

But I don't think I could stand waiting for 30 days.

After all, it is an AVIAR/Y

When I got my Duron 800 I went through the same uneasiness with waiting and I decided to test the system first before overclocking. I ran it for about 2 weeks at stock and then gunned up the FSB to max (117mhz) to see if it would hold, it did. Now I'm caught in a bind. I can't remove the sink/fan combo to unlock it without a thermal compound to reattach it. I'd feel uneasy about "reusing" the stuff that came with the heatsink. Before you attach the heat sink make sure you have some compound to reattach it later.

In Canada that $2 paste costs $5 (which is still less that 10 cents US given current exchange), though I wouldn't mind paying it if any of the 4 radiocraps in my city actually stocked it! I wound up having a local hardware store liar, I mean salesperson, sell me a tube of an anti-oxidizing paste which he assured would do what I wanted it to. Since then I've had to underclock my backup machine to get it to work.

Me no happy.

I say go for it!. Test it first and then unlock that bad boy. You can always wipe the pencil off if it screws up before 30 days right?
