i read some time ago about a voltage mod for the 9700pro where someone gave more volts to the card throught the 5v line and got a better overclock, i got a small 5v adjustable power supply off of ebay, its a 10 amp power supply, is this enough for the card? im also thinking it will take some of the strain off of the power supply or i could do 5volt mods to the mobo, any ideas?

I'm sure 10A is enough! But most "adjustable" power supplies won't go *above* the rated voltage (like yours probably gives 1-5V or so), so you won't be able to give it more than 5V unless you're modding the card itself.

its a small nemic-lambda power supply, 5v, 10amp, it has voltage adjust +/- 10%?

I'm not an electrical engineer, I just play one on TV. If the specs say it goes to 5.5V, it probably does. :)

I'd be afraid to use a seperate supply to the video card. When a computer powers up, the different voltages (per system and cpu specs) have to come up in a specific sequence. This sequence ensures that different parts of the system initialize in the proper order and that unsafe voltage conditions aren't applied to sensitive devices.
The purpose of the "floppy" connector on a 9700 pro is to get additional power for surge (temporary) conditions when the AGP motherboard connection can't supply enough power. I'm not sure if the card uses the 5 or 12 volt part of the floppy power connector; maybe it uses both.
In my opinion, you risk serious damage to an expensive video card trying to use a seperate power supply. There are other, safer ways to do voltage modding on a video card. They are risky, but nowhere nearly as risky as what I think you're describing.
