View Full Version : Abit KT7A problem with Sound Blaster Live? True/False?
I have just build a KT7A TBird 850. I got done installing Win2K Pro. The moment I plug the Sound Blast Live card in and booted into Windows and it detected the SB Live, the computer locked up. I won't even start in Safe Mode. If I remember correctly that I have read somewhere that there is a problem with chipset or the mobo with SB Live cards. Is this true? If so, is there away around this? Or am I gonna have to just buy a new sound card?

Yes its been an on-running thing and there still hasnt been a single solution to fix it. Most of the solutions can be found on www.viahardware.com forums but here are a few I know that can help...
1...Update to the latest BIOS, it gives you extra options to turn on/off to avoid the problem
2...Change PCI Latancy No Delay on with the new bios.
3...Take as much traffic off the chipset as possible by removing unneeded IRQ assignments such as USB & VGA.
4...Take SBLive DOS Emulation off in safe mode, this one disables dos sound but thats not needed nowadays.
5...Install the latest patch issued by creative.
I have 2 KT7A-R mobo's. One has the SBLive problem the other does not. Both boards run the same bios, OS, drivers, and hardware. Go figure?

I have the sound Blaster live value with no problems. Did you try evey slot to see if it works? I have found leaving the sound card in the last possible is the best place. ABIT did just release a BETA BIOS flash that is supposed to fix the SB problem. I saw a link for it I think on HARDOCP.com the bios was released 7/25.
