Hello all,

Well, it's time to get a new card. The 9600 XT looks good to me. However, I use 1280x1024 rez. Will this be a problem with this card (reguarding games)? Also, I want to know if I should get the ATI brand or Asus? The Asus looks like it has a better HSF on it.

Thanks for the help!

The answer depends a lot on your budget. The 9600 XT is undoubtedly the best medium priced vid card, so if your budget is only about $200, then that's the card for you. If you have deep pockets, then step up to the 9800 Pro or perhaps the 9800 XT if you have cash to burn. I've seen favorable reviews about both the Asus and ATI vid cards.

i guess i would also like to throw the 9700 pro and 9800 np in the hat as well, they are both quite a bit cheaper than the 9800 pro/xt and they are not that much slower, a little OC on a 9700 pro you will get similar results, flash the np to a pro and OC you got yourself an awsome card and you save some money

and no the 9600 xt should not have a problem running games at that res right now...maybe in the future when hl2 or doom III rolls out but not right now

well, I want to play HL2 so you think 9600 XT could have a problem?

Thanks

Since HL2 might not be released for months, then we would be just guessing at this point.

You should be good for now at 1280x1024 in almost any game. I've been running that resolution on almost all of my dx8.1 games. DX9, I usually have to step it down to 1024x768 to get more playable fps. So w/ a 960xt, you should have no problem at all running any current game at that resolution.

I think you would be better off with a BBA 9800 NP if your looking for a v/card in the $200-250 range . CC has the BBA 9800 NP for $300 -$50 INSTANT savings =$250 , along with an added 10% OFF , "this week only" in the form of a GIFT CARD for anything purchased over $200 . That would bring the price down to $225 and you could use the gift card towards a future purchase of HL2 ! :D LINKY (http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.jsp?c=1&b=g&qp=0040633610425&bookmark=bookmark_0&oid=80847&catoid=-10266)
Overclock the NP to Pro speeds and your set !

Not to shaby a deal IMO . ;) :D

I put it in my computer. It runs and looks awesome! The chips say samsung (337?), but I can't remember now. If anyone has not checked out the screen savers on the disk, please do! They kick a$$.

I'm a happy camper.....for the moment.
