This is a simple question, I'm waiting for ATI to release a 256MB edition of there AIW Pro 9800 series but I'm wondering if it will ever happen. I want 256MB of graphics memory for my SimCity4 and I also will be doing lots of video editing so I need the VIVO functions.

So far, I only see the 128MB AIW 9800 Pro, with no word on a 256MB edition.

EDIT: OK, i wasnt thinking but is there 256MB editions that arnt AIW cards that still have the VIVO funtions? (video in video out). I wonder if they exist.

Not to be rude or anything, but do you have any proof whatsoever that 256MB of VRAM is going to really take your SimCity4 gaming to another level? I ask only because such a card, if it existed, would be probably more expensive than a 9800XT (~$500), given the pricing between 128MB and 256MB cards established by ATI.

I know SC4 is very resource-hungry, but I didn't think it needed more than 128MB of video memory to run well.

I don't know if the 9800Pro 256MB/9800XT has VIVO, but if money is no object, you could buy one of those and a PCI VIVO card. A standalone card is generally the preferred solution for high-end video editing anyway.
