Welcome to the forums. That system should run fine. Depending on what kind of multimedia you're planning to do (such as heavy gaming) a more poweful video card might be better. The chip should be overclockable, if you can get specific steppings look around on the forums for specific steppings which can give you more desirable oc results.

what video card would you recommend?

Congratulations on doing the rare thing and asking questions before spending the $.

1.) GeForce4 Ti4200 destroys GeForce FX 5200 so great choice for under $100.

I'd say it's the GeForce4 Ti 4200 or ATi Radeon 9800, anything in between is simply not worth it.

2.) Ooh, New Thortons appear to be locked.
If you can get an old Thorton, and you have conductive paint and you're willing to spend time modding it, you can turn it into a Barton,

otherwise, it's the 1700+ through 2100+ Thoroughbred B for $62 and under. Here's how to make sure it's a B:
http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=222237

3.) Look to see if Gigabyte has extras that you need, otherwise, it's a choice of two: Abit or Soltek nForce2 mobos. Best overclockers, zero problems in posting all multipliers on all Thoroughbred B's. I haven't seen any third nForce2 mobo that can post all multipliers on all T-Bred B's without wire tricks...

4.) Thermalright heatsink is the best but if you can't get it, then other copper heatsinks are fine. (That's Thermalright not Thermaltake, although Thermaltake makes the best fan: adjustable speed Smart Fan 2)

Make sure you apply thermal compund correctly, like this:
http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_alumina_instructions.htm

5.) PC2100 will limit you to low 150s FSB. Worth it (maybe) if you can get them free after rebate or very cheap.

Otherwise, PC2700 gets you 180s or low 190 FSB.
PC3200 gets you 200 and up.

Only certain PC3200s get you 220 FSB overclock.

FSB is very important for gaming...

but you can't go wrong with a Radeon 8500(that's what I have)..

its about even with the 4200..

i wasn't very clear on multimedia. not really gaming, but more like 3D modeling, rendering, video streaming, and animation.
