I was interested in overclocking my 1gig bird so I came here to the forums to read a bit about how to go about doing this. I read a lot of posts about the numbers on the chip and if they are good or not. So I decided to open up my box and take a look at what I had. When I pulled of my ThermoEngine to get to my chip something very strange jumped out at me. The top two pads on the chip where gone!!!
I remember the chip having them when I first put the ThermoEngin on. I was wondering if this is will effect my chip or can I go on using it with no effect?
Buy the way I looked at my chip and it has the letters AJFA. I haven't read anyone talking about these letters so I am assuming that this would not be the chip to OC with. If anyone can give a reply to either question that would be great.

just take the other 2 off so your heatsink is sitting correctly

i would buy a shim for it so the core dont break when installing/disinstalling the heatsink

My 1G/266 lost its pads in the Branson De-Greaser at work. All that changed is you will have to be extra careful clipping and unclipping the retainer, so you don't chip an edge. Not that a chip means instant death, but it sometimes can. If you can find the two missing ones, glue them back on. Now be careful!

If you want to play it safe, and I know I would, you could get a shim and that way you probably wont chip it. Otherwise be extremely careful, expecially with a Thermoengine, I have heard they have a bad repuation for crushing cores with the pads. I cant imagine without.

1/16" neoprene from Danger Den will work. Just make for new pads from the neoprene.
