could a new power supply speed up your system?
I just upgraded from a crappy generic 300w to a sparkle 350w that was highly recommended by someone that wrote a review here. I could be wrong and maybe just being optimistic, but I swear some programs are loading faster, like internet explorer and AIM. could totally be my imagination so feel free to tell me so. just wondering

The only thing I could think of is that the sparkle psu gives a more constant voltage to your system, which could account for the crisper feeling.
why would more constant voltage result in "a crisper feeling"?
Placebo effects are powerful things.

Every extra watt of power gives you an extra 10 MHz in speed. This has been been proven conclusively, just like chiropractic has.

woah is it safe to run the agp bus @85mhz? that seems pretty steep
i think what was happening was that your programs were draining the power supply and it needed to wait a little until one was done loading, then load another. perhaps now you can open all your programs at once(or so it seems) and still have extra wattage left to spare. more programs = more cpu usage = more watts used

lol i think he means hes joking saince chiropracting hasnt been proven as a true bona fide solution to back problems, just a way to ease pain and discomfort.

I don't have anything overclocked anymore, but it won't let me change my sig for some reason.
I didn't know much about the agp bus, I just figured fast is good? it worked alright at that speed
I just got sick of all the thought I had to give to cooling, so I run it at stock now
but another benefit of this heat sink is that its a LOT cooler than my other one, and my cpu is usually about 5 degrees celcius cooler than before, and thats with my fan at 300 less rpm than usual. wish I'd done this months ago!

I just upgraded my PSU from a 90w to a 450w, I just ordered it. It still hasn’t come yet but im really excited about it. I think it's going to make a lot difference in my computer performance and just in General :) w00t! What do you think about this jump in Power?
A higher capacity PSU will not improve performance on its own. It will only potentially increase stability and may improve other components' lifespans by providing them with less fluctuating and more on-spec voltage and current.
What do I think about your jump in power? I think you made a typo - I hope you didn't really have a 90W PSU before...

yea...90w wouldnt even power up an AT computer....

90W to 450W? Wow, that's going to give a 3.6 GHz increase in speed, without any extra CPU heat. It even turns the CPU into a Peltier cooler.
You people are all crazy...
:)
I hope you're kidding, larrymoencurly.

Yeah, for some reason i bet larymoencurly is just kidding.. Anyways, chances are the 300 watt cheapo psu was getting overloaded and you could have been getting memory errors from lack of juice to the ram. I have seen that before...causes stuff to slow down or unstable. Memtest86 is a good thing to test with and multimeters and or mbm5 to see voltage readings. Going from a 90w to a 450watt psu may do quite a bit of damage if its an oem system that is proprietary like DELL or such. You could literally fry the entire motherboard/ram/psu etc ...pretty ugly. So just make sure before plugging it in Orange Fire. and WELCOME to the forums as well.
