View Full Version : New rig won't boot overclockix
I got a 2400+ and an epox 8rda+ today and it's just going to be a folding rig but I have one small problem. I tried installing windows xp but got some error so I figured I would just run overclockix on it and not worry about it. The problem is that it won't boot. It says "Boot failed: please change disk and press a key to continue" I took the disk out because I thought maybe it had some dirt or something on it but it's perfectly clean. The code on the board is FF so that's fine. I was just hoping Arkaine23 or somebody else with overclockix knowledge could explain some reasons that it wouldn't boot. I haven't loaded the nf2 drivers if that makes a difference(couldn't load windows). Thanks in advance.

I dont fold with you guys but I watch you guys to learn from.
Can you boot any cd? I have overclockix running on 12 pcs just off the cdrom no hdd at home and never had a problem like that.
I just make sure cdrom is in the boot table before hdd and let it rip.
btw i fold for 11936, www.carnagge.com 137 right now with just 15 guys.

Seems like you should adjust boot order settings to place CD-rom as the first boot device.
I have a rev 1.1 8rda non-plus for my main box. It boots overclockix just fine. Also, test the CD on another machine to see if maybe the CD is damaged in some way. Not all Cd drives can play all CDR's, though this is now a very rare issue.
The hard drive isn't in the boot order anymore. First boot device is the cdrom and the second device is the floppy(which doesn't seem to work). I'll swap cdroms to see if that helps.
Sweet, I swapped cdrom's and it's working fine now. Thanks guys :)

I have an old HP board with a 1 Gig athlon that wouldn't boot overclockix, it will only work with Windows so I had to get a HD for that layer. My other layer is an MSI nforce1 board which I never tried with overclockix but Arkaine says it won't work either.

I'm not so sure about that anymore. I can't seem to find any info about nforce1 drivers for linux that is not lumped together with info about nforce2 drivers. There's no harm in trying if you already have a CD...

I know that when you download the drivers, it's the same as the nforce2 drivers so I would assume that they should work. I'll try it out and let you know.
Well, if it's not one thing, it's something else. That computer is now running overclockix fine but the network card on the computer beside it (they're daisy chained) isn't working. I'll try un/reinstalling it to see if that helps. If it doesn't, looks like that rig will be collecting dust until I can pick up another nic card.
Well, in another attempt at installing windows, I found out that the hdd i was using was too small so I grabbed the 20 gig drive from a compaq that was given to me and I'm making another go at it. Hopefully things will work out
Well, I got everything up and running. This was more trouble than it should have been but I'm happy now, TeamDFA got a new 2400+ out of it :)
