I have a Shuttle XPC (http://www.us.shuttle.com/specs2.asp?pro_id=283). In it I have an EVGA Geforce 4 Ti 4600. The problem I have is noise from the video card fan. The layout of the system puts the surface of the heatsink about 1 cm away from the side of the case with vent holes right below it. Space is a problem on the side that normally has the heatsink and fan. The other side (where the cpu normally is) has an unused PCI slot. Yes, this is not how PCI and AGP slots are normally laid out.

The noise seems to be about the same as it was in my old case, but because it is so near the side of the new case, it is much more noticable.

Drill some holes near the Fan and see if that will stop the noise, otherwise dynamat it.

I would try to due a heatpipe from zalman. It has no fan and the fact that there is a pci above gives plent of space. Should cut down on sound drastically though i dont know how your CPU would liek taht or your gfx for that matter as the airflow is horrible,.

this is a great modding tool to make a little extra space in that case to put some decent cooling on

and here is a good fan to strap onto the video card

Nice, Twigs.

I think if you can get a Zalman passive heatsink to fit, that would be just what you need.

I would like to also find something smaller then the zaleman heatsin kfor my Ti 4200, I want to eliminate as many fans as possible from my rig.

Can you take the fan off of the vid card? Leaving the GPU HS in place.Do you have a empty PCI slot below the Vcard? There should be a blank you can remove above the Vcard also.Place
a fan midway in the case ,pointing towards the rear of the case.
Try to mount were fan hub is center with Vcard. You may be able to make a bracket to mount on the HDD cage.Keep in mind you want to hang this fan in free air.Not to close to Vcard or HDD cage.
If this sounds like a possability let me know.THE FANMAN:cool:

The noise still persists when the case is removed, so drilling holes won't help.

I don't know if that fan will work Twigs. I was hoping for something quiet.

I've looked at the Zalmans and I don't think it would fit on the front side (where the normal heat sink and fan is) because it is too close to the case. There isn't a pci slot there saving room. I wonder if this could be mounted backwards? So that the big heatsink is in the back of the video card.

I wonder if I could take out the fan and build a vent out to a bigger fan.

Twigs knows what he's talking about. I have TWO of those fans stacked on my CPU. Keeps it nice a chilly and purrs like a kitten. Just ask fluffy.
