Hi, I'm a n00b here and to overclocking but I understand most of it. I have an stock AMD K7 1,000MHz that came with a Compaq Presario 7998 which is about at least 1 year and a half old right now. I was just wondering how much farther it could go with standard cooling, and do you guys have any suggestions going about this? I might also be O/Cn' a p4 1.7GHz to 1.9GHz, any suggestions on that?

hmm, your only hope on overclocking is probably to use a program called SoftFSB. You can find it through a search in google. Unless you have options for changing the bus speed or multi on the motherboard via jumpers or in the bios then you will have to go that route. As for the p4, post a question about in the Intel CPU's section. With a good enough heatsink, it should be more than possible.

as i remember on my compaq presario board they don't have jumpers that "up" the speed but there was some that can make the speed go down....so u can use softfsb or cpucool to up the fsb.....they can be found at www.tweakfiles.com

Sorry about the delay but I haven't been able to get on the computer lately. It's an AMD Athlon Slot A... I have heard of a hardware device Ninja something that connects to the extra slot on top of the CPU with jumpers that allows you to alter the multi, bus, and voltage, and works on all Slot A's. It's about $60 USD. How well does the software programs work though?
