The RAM will only be a problem if you're trying to oc with the fsb - if you are, then you're running a fsb of 110 at the moment (if it's a '200' bus chip, not a '266' bus), and it's quite possible that the RAM can't run faster than that if it's cheap PC100. Are you using the fsb or the multiplier to oc?
Hi and welcome Kristian, u must be Allans friend. Say hallo to Allan from me the next time u talk to him.
So do u have some more information on ur setup, like what Motherboard u use. Also do u know the code that's on ur CPU?
Have fun.

Hey..
I am using the fsb and the multiplier to oc....
I have just ordre som pc 166 ram...
I have a soltek 75kav motherboard i dont know what the code is for the cpu...
yes ill give him a liltle hallo!!
thx
OK. What are ur temps? And have u tried to up the VCore?

Hey guys
I was at Kristian's house yesterday, and perhaps this info can help you help him/us overclock his Tbird!
It's a 266 1gig Tbird. We used the pencil trick to unlock it, and it works like a charm. I'm pretty sure the RAM is holding it back quite a bit, especially when we go for FSB overclocking.
If we set the multiplier to 9 or above it won't boot - but at 8.5 it works (With FSB set to 133, the CPU does 1133MHz - but is unstable)
There is just a stock cooler attached, no wonder-performer. I highly recommend he gets rid of this sucker as well, and then maybe it will do some higher multipliers...
We removed the crappy thermal goop, and applied arctic silver II instead. It sure helped on the temperatures. It is now in the range of 45-55 degrees C I think. (Idle vs Folding)
We tried upping the vcore as well, no luck. I'm really looking forward to your new RAM Kristian, it really should help quite a bit!
Oh yeah, he has GeForce 2 MX video card, so that shouldn't be what is holding him back here.
Does any of this help?
OK ur temps are a little high, so I would get some better cooling if I was u. Take a look at this site: http://www.studiedata.dk/group.asp?group=111
I don't know how much money u are going to spend but some of the good ones are:
- Global Win WBK38
- Swiftech MC462A
- Taisol CGK760092
So have a look on those things, I think they would help u a lot.
BTW Thanks for the information's Allan!

Thx all....
I think that ill go for the Global Win WBK38....
But why cant go higher then 8,5 on the multi??
The WBK is a great cooler, just keep in mind that it's very noisy.
I u tried to re-do the pencil trick? Be sure that none of the bridges are in contact with each other.

The default multiplier is 7.5, but after doing the pencil trick, it will boot fine with 8 and 8.5, so I'm sure we did an ok job on that. Anyway, FSB overclocking makes a faster system than multiplier overclocking does... so lets see what happends when you got that PC166 ram! :)

That is odd because I got 200+ out of my 900 with ease. Just multiplier and no voltage increase. I have a Millennium Glaciator and It's worked well for me. Look into it.

I don't think it is that odd, considering the facts that you have good cooling (he just has stock cooling), and you have good RAM (he has PC100)...
Or is that just me?

BUMP
Who can help Kristian on this?
Hey allen,
I've got the same processor here. 1 gig 266 axia y
So far i can't get past 8.5 multi either.
at 9 the machine doesn't even post.
I have the fsb at 145 and multi at 8.5 which seems reasonable @ 1235.
Maybe these cores won't go any higher via the multiplier.
I'm going to try to redo the bridges tomorrow and see if i can do better.

I think they should be able to reach a higher multiplier number, perhaps some better cooling will do the trick? I'm not sure if Kristians was an AXIA though.
Well, the bridges are fine. I set the fsb down to 100 and i could boot with 9x up to 13x with no problems.
Adjusting the fsb beyond 115 at anything higher than 9x would cause a non-post situation.
8.5x165 was about the fastest i could run. but i didn't like the pci and agp running that fast. 41 pci apg was at 88 if i remember correctly.

I had a similar problem with my setup when I first got it. Would be ok with any multiplier 8.5 or lower. The bridges were the problem. I erased and cleaned them really good (rubbing alcohol) and then used a magnifying glass and a fine (.5 MM) tipped mechanical pencil. No problems after that. I was running PC100 Memory at the time too (CAS2 Kingston). So give the bridges another try. It's kinda weird, I also have a Geforce 2 MX.... **twilight zone music**
My chip is a 1 GHz 266 FSB AXIA-Y.

reason why it wont do 9 or higher is because of the pencile
go to autozone or the local auto parts store and get a rear window defroster repair kit
use the conductive paint in it and i bet it will go higher
try it and let me know
i had a problem of none of the x.5 multiplyers not working and anyting over 10 wouldnt work either but the defroster kit made them work =-)
Why can i get all the multi's at 100fsb and not 133?
@100
I get 9 9.5 10 10.5 11. 11.5. 12 12.5 13
@133
I get 7.5 8 8.5
I figured if i could reach all the multis at a lower fsb it would proove that the L1s are connected. ??
