hi,
i am looking to get a 9800pro and i have been looking around and came across a 9800pro with samsung 2.8mem but it is only the oem version, now this is slightly more expensive than another 9800pro i have been looking at which is the retail version but i dont know what the mem is.
so what i would like to know is, which 1 to get?
the oem, 2.8m, costs more or the retail, unknown mem, cost less?
the price difference is roughly $40

i would be looking to OC it as well :D

thanks

From what I heard, its ok to get the OEM. But just make sure that it is not a Powercolor. I heard that manufacturer sucks. Also, Radeon with Samsung memory overclocks very well, but I am not sure what is the standard speed for memory for the 9800 pro. For example, the FX5900, there are 2 versions. The only difference is the speed of the memory. The slower version use 2.8ns ram, and the faster (regular) version use 2.2ns ram. You might want to do a little more research before you jump into that OEM card.

Can any 9800 pro owners tell him what speed is ram of the reqular 9800 pro video card?

How do you figure out if it's 2.8ns or 2.2ns?

Saying that Powercolor cards "suck" seems to be a bit too broad of a generalization. Overall they are good cards. I think they are better now than they used to be.

Overall, a built by ATI card seems to be the best bet.

I'd take the retail for cheaper, as all Pro cards are equipted with 2.8ns RAM or better.
