j/k, after further testing, i decided to lower the fsb to 200, and put the multiplier up a notch or 2. Running @ 1200(12x100). I tried to get the temp up as high as i could, ie running sandra, encoding movies to divx (this stressed the cpu quite a bit i noticed). surprising, the temp didn't go above 131f/55c on mbm and on this fsb, it didn't lock up at all. Seems like this chip doesn't like the higher fsb (it's default) or could the mobo be a part of the prob? just adding this breaking news (hehe) to see if anyone can come up with their thoughts on this. Thanks for taking time out of you day/night for reading this. I am new to these forums and ppl here seem to be trying to help out eveyone....8-)

this should've been along with my other post, hey, i did say i was new to the forums.

1) These are helpful people aren't they.

2) I just compared Sandra to ASUS probe in my system and got only a 1c difference, although my core voltage is apparently 1.07v in Sandra! I would suggest that regardless of which you decide to believe that you just pick one (once the system is stable) and pay more attention to significant rises in that particular sensor's readings. If the sensor erroneously reports a temperature off by 10c but the system is running fine as long as it is consistently off by that 10c you'll always know what range is safe based on its readings.

3) about this:

You did you recieve the email about having to pay $10 to the first person who mentions one of your mistakes didn't you? ;)

no,...... and i'm sure i'm not the first one....^_^

ok, I figured out which temps/monitor to watch out for, but why would it only lock up when running it's default fsb of 266? could it have to do with memory or another system card? the only other 2 cards in slots are my nic and voodoo 4 on the agp.

I don't have a SOYO board so perhaps someone else could answer that better but maybe you memory is the problem. Try lowering the cas settings to their slowest and then test the system. Other than that I can't think of anything else right now.

Good Luck.

thanks, i will try some other memory, something tells me that it prob. won't help, but definitely worth a try

Ok, i don't think it is the memory. Before i even tried different memory, i tried oc'ing by raising the fsb in the BIOS. i topped off at 114x12.5 (with the memory clocking at 150 (at least that's what it said in sandra 2001).
