well i got some new ram recently and i've been playing around with higher fsb's... before i was limited to about 175... at that fsb i was able to achieve a overclock of about 390/317 on my 9500 Pro... now i am lucky to bebale ot run 320/310 with a fsb of 210.. and the higher i go on the fsb the lower and lower i have to clock my video card to complete 3dmark...

i don't think it's the new ram, i was able to memtest it successfully at 220 2-2-2-6...

most of the time 3dmark crahses into windows.. on occasion the whole system crashes though... i've tried all sorts of different video card related bios setting and nothing seems to help...(on a side note what are the best bios settings for video card?) if i i go down to 175ish again everything is the same as it was before... i'm getting sort of frustrated... i've tried a couple differnt video drivers wit the same behavior as the result...

so what could be causing this.. my first hunch is power supply at it's threshold... it's a 300W sparkle and i know i'm pushing it with 5 case fans two HD two optical drives cathods.. but i didn't know if a higher fsb would tax teh PS more or not... i've done the l12 mod so i dont' think it's my motherboard or my cpu... so any input would be helpful...

Not sure whats going on but maybe the apg slot needs a tad bit more juice.

Do not up the voltage on the AGP slot it just might blow your card. If you are running in AGP 8X turn your AGP speed down to 4X and see what you get for a card OC.

allright... i'll try the 4x thing... i already tried uping the agp voltage, nothing.. good or bad... does anyone else thinkit might be PSU getting too loaded?

What PSU are you using?

a 300W sparkle.. and i think i'm probably on the edge of it's capabilities.. jsut i didn't know if by simply upping the fsb would put more load on the power supply...

I would take your OC down some you just might be pushing that PSU too much.

It sounds to me like your 9500 pro has just had enough of being OC'ed. It might be the psu that is causing the troubles, but I highly doubt it. I have run a few of that same psu with no troubles at all, as a matter of fact I have replaced several 350 and 400 watt no name psu's with that 300 watt Sparkle because the no namer psu's where giving troubles with similar rigs as yours. If you are worried though, I replaced my 300 watt sparkle with a 350 watt and have had a stabile 2350mhz on an XP1700 cpu for 6 months now. You may also try lowering memory timings and see if that helps. I know that you have that high dollar memory that you just bought that is supposed to hit 400 fsb+, but it doesnt hurt to try.

It's your power supply.

Try one of these

i thought of that but if i take the fsb down to 176 with 2.5-3-3-7 timings it'll overclock like always no problems... the moment i go to cas 2 it has trouble though... and more so with higher fsb's... but you may be right... but i've been suspect of my power supply for awhile, i think i'll invest in new power supply and report back with the findings...

that is if i can get my computer to boot.. got up this morning with a checksum error... won't boot no matter what i try... but that's for another thread if flashing the bios doesn't fix it... i love computers...

I had similar problems on a nf7-s but ver.1. When I went from my 4200 to a 9700 Radeon I had to lower my FSB but not by much. I think it was from 200 to 194 FSB. If I didn't. it would hang 3d games hard forcing a hard reboot. Moving down the 6 mhz stopped that. I tried an updated Epox 8rda+ and didn't have that problem. Running FSB at 210 now no problem. Might be power but I distinctly had the Abit Mboard causing my issue. I have an Antec 350 smartpower supply. Same rig for bothe motherboards.
Hope this helps!

well it seems the L12 mod done to the cpu was done poorly and caused the problem... i removed it and everythings working much better now... 220 fsb... yipee...
