View Full Version : Easy unlocking method?

Ok, I'm not a complete n00b but I'm not a professional either so here goes:

Ordered a 1.4GHz/266 and it should be in on Tues. I've heard that some have gotten it unlocked, some locked, so I'll expect locked. DeFogger paint to fill the bridges will be my choice. I notice huge articles on unlocking. What if I just put scotch tape over the L1 bridges and used an artist's X-Acto knife to cut out the bridges? And then lay on the goop?

Anyone see any problem with this? Seems like an easy way of doing it. Just want to hear your guys opinions before I go screwing around with a 300buck proc(CDN Beaver money here) -_-

Welcome to the forums! Good news, the 1.4 ghz cpu's come unlocked (anything 1.2 or higher, for that matter), so you won't need to do any unlocking.

Oh yeah, and what is all this AVYIA, AXIX, etc. stuff? Different makes of Athlons I assume, but what do they mean?

The letters are steppings of the processor, this usually can indicate to you a rough estimate of how high it will go. I think all 1.4's are AYHJA, which run cooler than the AXIA's that appear in 1-1.33 ghz cpu's. The three best codes for o/cing are (in no particular order) AVIA, AXIA, and AYHJA. You may see something like AXIA Y, the AXIA is the first 4 letters on the third line of the cpu, the Y is the first letter (sometimes a number) on the 4th line of the cpu.
