hi , just upgraded to a 1.8ghz duron applebred,PC2700 crucial 2x 256mb 2.5cas and a ausu A7N8X-VM mobo.
i was wondering how i should overclock the processor, tried the L2 cache mod for 256k cache and it worked :) mobo thinks its a athlon xp 2200+ now.
will the processor do 166fsb by connecting 2 pins with wire in the socket + will it be able to run at that speed. using pin guide from www.ocinside.de
heatsink is a xdream temps atm are p = 40c and mb = 28c load and idle stupid asus probe

i will increase the vcore but i want to do that by bridges , done bridge overclocking before on a 750mhz duron :)

i think the stepping is MIUHB. Thoroughbred 'B'
is it multiplier locked and is it any good.

the mobo has no overclock settings what so ever but i needed the igp , takes 128mb of mem though , ram running in dual channel mode

cut and paste of wcpuid (it is a duron 1800 with L2 cache increased k)

yea it should'nt have problems at 2.24GHz with enough voltage. What do you mean the motherboard has no overclocking options? its an nForce2 motherboard by ASUS?

From the looks of it, it sounds like you have a Abit NF7-M mobo.

If you are talking about the mod by connecting the two pins underneath via wire, then, I can't say for sure because I have yet to see anyone who attempted it with "new" Duron's. Most AMD procs that are "B" are usually good. If the mobo has no OCing options, it will hard to OC, but not impossible. You can try the mod but, that's at your own risk. If this was an XP "B" version chip, then I would go for it. Just not to certain about you trying this right now.

But if you want it bad enough, I say PROCEED WITH CAUTION. An end result could mean you have a new "keychain".

Lastly, when you say that you modded the L2 cache, how did you do that ?

the mobo is a asus A7N8X-VM with gf4mx onboard gfx its a nforce2 board but has no options to o/c using the bios cause its cheap.

the applebred duron L2 cache can be re-enabled by drawing the furthest right bridge back in. so l2 : : : : becomes l2 : : : | and the l2 cache increases from 64k to 256k a 192k increase.

2.2 should be a cake walk, I am running my 1.6 duron with enabled L2 @2415 with 210 fsb on my erda+, my Kd7 allowed upper and lower multi's though:( but I still couldn't touch 210 fsb with it:)
