not sure if ive done a good thing,

i just built my lil shuttle SN45G

i put the copper shim on the cpu but i remove the lil plastic coating on it.

shoudl i have done that?

do i even need the shim?

may of added a bit too much AC3 as well....was my first try

with my shuttle i get 49-50C temps with it sitting in bios screen...dotn know yet what it would get to with a full load.

i havent had a chance to mod it yet and im certainly not overclocking it till i get better fans and such.

No shim...

Also use about half a piece of rice for the amount of thermal goop.

also let the artic silver..or whatever thermal greese ur using let it burn in...then u will also see lower temps

Just let it run overnight. If you really want a burn in, might want to run Prime or another benchmark overnight as well.

You might concider a better fan to cool your heat pipe. The ones I have seen in the shuttles have been somewhat low CFM. Another thing you might try is going into the bios to set the fan speed at max.

yeah i already went into bios for that, figured that much out.

as for fan yeah ive noticed it only get abotu as high as 2200rpm and from what ive heard of other ppl that is very low.

as soon as i have more money i am going to buy a bunch of fans and other stuff to pimp out my machine and overclock it.

Don't use the shim. I didn't use it and didn't smash my CPU. I used to take teh ICE thing off and put it back on all the time.
Cut out the back grill of the ICE fan and the PSU fan. That should help temps a bit.
Switch to a better fan.
Make a 80mm top blowhole

It shold OC a decent amount with those mods.
I got mine my 2500+ up to 11x190 with some regular PC2700 ram. Stock fan too. :D

I'm having trouble with my 3.0Ghz P4 in a shuttle right now. I have it underclocked to 2.95Ghz and its stable. I've ordered one of those tornado fans and I'm going to try that. I think a good PCI fan might help a lot too, its in just the right spot.

Anyways, I've done some snooping and I've found some information about the fan that it does use that I'll share. My fan is labeled as a SUNON KD1208PTBI. I looked this up on the Sunon website (http://www.sunon.com.tw/products/pdf/traditional-dc/dc_fan.pdf).

1.8 Watts.
3100 RPM.
41 CFM.
35 dBA.

That matches the part number, but my fan is labeled as 2.6W, so I don't know if this is some modified version or what. At full speed my fan is reading 3600 RPM. The slow speed of this fan is designed to keep noise down, I believe.
