OK I recently bought a new 800 Mhz Duron system that I built tonight and I put in my Voodoo 4 PCI that was previously in my P2 300 Mhz comp... and I get a WORSE framerate on the Duron. WHY?!?
I'm a big Starsiege Tribes player and I get probably around 30 on the average on the P2 but with this new Duron I expected A LOT more. I get about 18-19 frames per second on a game where people with these types of machines should be getting a ton more than that. It can't have anything to do with drivers because they are the same as when they were on the P2.
I don't have the soundcard in yet, but that has nothing to do with it. I expected a machine with this kind of FSB to have better performance.
One thing that I noticed was that when I loaded Windows 98 onto it, the CD was somehow missing quite a bit of files, and it informed me of this, I had to skip them all because I don't know just where those files might be. Could that be the problem? I can't think of anything... and the thing is, Tribes is a Glide based game, and 3dfx cards are designed for Glide. What is the problem?
