the price difference between the 2500+ barton and 2600+ barton is roughly $10. assuming that both chips are locked, which one is capable of a higher fsb overclock?
i guess it really depends on what motherboard it is in
i got my 2600 stable at 215 fsb with some borrowed mem (mine craps out at 192fsb but new stick is in da post) see sig for mobo details

ill be using an Abit NF7-S Rev 2.0 or an Abit AN7 (too new to make a decision) with 2x512mb Mushkin Lv 2 Black PC3500.

depending on your RAM's performance
with such good ram and mobo I'd go for the 2500 as it has a lower multi, which means you'll need a higher FSB to max out the chip

thats what i was wondering about....the maximum potential speed for each cpu. if both reach the same, the 2500 would be better.

All things equal, the only upside to the XP2500+ would be that you would save $10.
You also have to consider that there's a much better chance of getting an unlocked XP2600+ Barton over the XP2500+ nowadays which would make the "lower multi" of the XP2500+ a non-issue.
As I have cruised the local stores, one trend I have noticed about the 2600s is they're either old (week 10-13) "old process carrier" or very new "new process carrier" types. Today, I picked up what I consider to be about as good a one as you'll find in terms of stepping. It is an AQZFA 0337. It, like most other 2600s ran $10 more than the 2500 at two of the stores and the same price at a third.
I just got it in and have not started the slow see-saw journey up in speed. My "old process carrier" 2600 week 13 doesn't like an FSB above 220 Mhz. I don't run my memory asynchronously. It requires typically .1Vcore more to attain the same speed as the "new process carrier" 2500s and 2600s.

Looks like you already have that XP2600+ 0337 up and running.
I'd like to see how far you can get it to since I have it's twin over here waiting for it's NF7 to arrive.
