So it was the PSU after all.

I put my geforce 3 in and a new monitor and then suddenly the sound starrted complelty mucking up, but intimetly like sometime it would last hours of mp3, yet the startup sound would ALWAYS muck up. And the monitor would shake sometimes. Strange.

So I downclocked to 700 from the 1.4 I was running and all is well - it was the PSU!!! So I just ordered an enermax 431w.

The only time I've ever seen PSU probs was when I put an 80W peltier in 1gig athlon machine with a 235w psu :D it just reset occasionally...

the shaking monitor thing would have scared the hell out of me even if i wasnt sober when it happened! :)
