Well, the 2.6C will be able to run at 262 FSB (3.4 gig) with your RAM if it'll do DDR420 in dual channel mode. On the other hand, those 2.8C's usually do pretty good and it'll be easier on your RAM. You can always buy a better CPU cooler later when you have more cash if you got the 2.8C.

the disadvantage of me getting the 2.8C though is losing
raid, firewire, 3.3vdim and gigabyte lan

The IS7-E has SATA RAID, firewire, and built-in LAN.

how high do you believe a 2.8C would go on stock hs?

If you want RAID 0/1 and Firewire, then spend the extra $10-$15 and go for the IS7 over the IS7-E. Adding that stuff on later will cost you a lot more than that.

hehe, dont get to worked up over a gigabyte NIC....
You still need gigabyte Hubs/Switchs/Routers, and lets not forget CAT 5e cable (CAT 6 prefered). And all that stuff Still costs an Arm and a Leg.

Plus i dont think your PC will need that much bandwidth anyways.
100Mbit connection sure isnt going to slow your net connection down :D

Right now its all hype for home users, not very practicle.
Only place i can use a vaild use for it is in a Large Lan (like an office) Just because you dont need to run asmuch cable for the same total network bandwidth

how well will a 2.6C overclock on stock cooling vs a 2.8C on stock cooling?
