intel is 100x better
ive had a 800eb cusl2 intel cpu p3
1.2ddr t-bird
p4 1.4
p4 is 100x better then the AMD and is far faster with better chipset support, all around drivers
That's why an AMD Athlon MP 1.2GHz outperforms a P4 1.5GHz and the new PIII 1.2GHz Tualitans in virtually every benchmark

are you blind...j/k but really wht do you mean an AMD out perfoms any intel cpu except in memory-in Sisandra my tbird 750 does the same as a p3 igig chip-and when i set it to 900 is smokes the p4, it dont look as if you did you rsearch Einstein

Ditto from me here! Also its nice to see that when one person thows a match on the gasoline we all don't go up in flames.
I think they should have not used a ddr board for comparison but a sdram as that would have made for a better cpu comparison with less influence on the motherboard.

My story about the P3 CPU,I remember when i first upgraded to a P3 550 from a AMD k62 400 about 2 years ago. Anyway i brought that p3 550 home and played unreal T right away on my voodoo 3 and let me tell you it was slow as molasses. I took that abit be6 100mhz bus motherboard and shoved it right up the sales man butt 4 days later at the store. I returned it and bought a GI-7IX slot A 600mhz Classic which was freaken cheaper than that PIII crap CPU. Played Unreal again and it was so much much much much much faster!!!!!! then i finally believed that AMD was the true computer for me.
Present Day
I still own that GI-7IX motherboard and recently just bought a slot A -T-bird 900 256k cache and got my self a nice GFD for 22 bucks off ebay and now its running at 1000mhz and this chip only cost me 130 bucks 7 months ago. 100 percent stable and right now my computer is faster than the p4 1.2 ghz and faster than the p3 1000mhz.
I think i might just totally skip the kt133a chipset and get me the aseus kt266 chipset which is alittle bit faster than the 760 chipset
I dont understand why they sell those crap p4 systems at all the retail stores i.e compaq ,

that is the best thing you can do to get banned is talk liek that. No we dont all believe in benchmarks. I have a celeron 800-with pc100 mem, and a slot tbird 750 with pc100 mem-basically the only difference is that the intel celle is 50mhz faster. I cannot even stand to work on the celeron, after using the amd-the 800 celeron is way slower then my 750 tbird.ya maybe the ondie cache has a little to do with it but its liek night and day--even opening my cpnuter on the celle take like 2-3 seconds- with the tbird i dont wait on anything- o and guess what the celle benches lower.
my my such language.tisk tisk. If your gonna always talk like that we might have to do sumthin about it. we dont tolerate that kinda language and flaming here. Otherwise you might as well take it someplace else.

I wouldnt look at 3dmark 2k1 as a cpu benchmark at all... Graphics card performance can very from board to board... You will have a hard time convincing me a p3 1.2 can beat a 1.5 athlon with just graphics card benchmark...

Wow this thread has gotten out of hand and perhaps needs some restraint, I would however like to point out to quake8 that I am not an crazy illigitamate child and I also have employment and finaces which would allow me to buy a Pentium 4 if I so wished. Some of your comments are offensive and I would respect you a great deal more if you toned them down in future and remember that we have users from all age groups in this forum
You may clearly see that the P4 is clearly faster as you state, but what I see is it that its clearly overpriced where I live. The AMD range of processors has increased the choice for consumers and effected intel pricing, competition is good for all consumers which is why AMD does not suck in my humble opinion.
I do not care for FPS and as for Windows functionality, you can obtain a great deal of speed by modifying and reducing the bloat of Windows. I would also like to know what real world task you do that requires a CPU faster than 800 mhz anyway. Real world is a strange term as the term means something different to each and everyone of us, my mother for example has a P4 which is used just to type letters and email people, this is not really faster in her real world than the P2 400 that it replaced.
I will of course give Intel time and hope that they can produce a reasonably priced, high performing CPU however at this point in time.. they fail in my humble opinion
