I recently tried to overclock my Duron 700 and failed miserably. I read a lot of info from this site (not the forums) then I changed the multiplier up to 7.5 then to 8.0 (x100). This had no effect that I could see and it posted at 700mhz still. Then I put it back to7 and bumped the CPU FSB/PCI Clock up one notch. I saved and rebooted but it wouldn't reboot. I turned it off then every time after that when I tried to boot it up it would start up then shut off after about 2 seconds of hitting the power button. Eventually I got it to work again, so nothing got fried. I don't know how I got it to work, cuz it wouldn't do jack for me so I took it to a friend and he plugged it in, turned it on, no problem. **** like that happens to me a lot. Anyhoo, this is what my CMOS looks like right now:

SoftMenu III Setup (Award)
CPU Operating Speed 700
Multiplier Factor 7
CPU FSB/PCI Clock 100/33 Mhz
CPU FSB Plus 0
Speed Error Hold Disabled

CPU Power Supply CPU Default
Core Voltage 1.600V
I/O Voltage 3.40V

I'm usually getting 32-36C on the chip, which is good right? My heatsink is copper and the fan is pretty good. Model is "Gladiator" but it's a Generic brand. My motherboard is an ABIT KT7a with 256 pc133 sdram if that helps any.
Any suggestions on what I should do exactly? I've read that you change the FSB but that didn't work the first time, but I'm open to any and all suggestions! Please help me out!
Thanks,
thom

i have the same CPU and have used the same Chipset. I would suggest you up your Vcore to 1.7 and then try to up your FSB because it sounds like your CPU is locked. By locked i mean you can't change the multiplyers, you can unlock it by connecting the L1 bridges with pencill or rear defoger repair kit(when unlocking do NOT short them all together with 1 big blob of widow kit or pencill! just connect the dots). If this does not work then you may want to try upping your VI/O voltage(see your manual) and if that doesn't work then try getting a new PSU (a 300 should be fine)

I can change all of those values. So you suggest changing the voltage to 1.7 and then up the FSB?
Also, I can't get my Floppy drive to work. I'm sure I have the right cable and connector plugged in. It's not the connector on the end of the cable though, cuz I couldn't figure out how to plug the weird lookin bugger in. There are two power connectors (the same type) in there mixed in with all those power connectors and whatnot. Any ideas?

look at your A drive power connection more cafully and make sure that you have not slipped and missed a pin. also if the green light is constantly on then you more than likely have the floppy cable on backwards
