I'm curious what would be a half decent overclock for a GeForce4 MX440.

Standard is: gpu 250mhz, ram 500mhz

..is it completely illogical to try and run it at 300/534 without excess cooling on a regular basis? I mean, the board itself has a decent sink and fan on it... and it isn't like I'm overclocking excessively..? Right?

Ven0m's temperature test:
- if it looks to be too hot, don't touch it - it's too hot
- if ther's on card part that when you touch it, your skin remains on VGA, it's too hot (once my card hasn't passed this test - ouch)
- you should be able to hold finger on any part on card for about 5 seconds or more - it's cold enough then :)
- it doesn't apply to new ATi cards, where you can get injuried even without serious OC
- this temp. guide is not a joke.

My MX440 came at 270/400, but I had it up to 390/480 on the desktop, and 380/480 in games.

My MX440 has only the heatsink, should I get a fan too before trying to oc it?

Well, it runs fine. No detection of errors or anything so I guess I'm clean. The sink on my gpu has a fan, however the ram does not. But my version of the card came with some pretty beefy ram.

My real world tests haven't failed as yet (CnC:Generals, WC3, NFSUnderground).

Heres a link Mbentley worked on that shows alot of overclocks on all Nividia cards

should search threads for answers before posting not meaning to be rude or anything just alot of members dont like having to repeat them selves when the information is right there if you look.
