or whatever the nvidia is called. everyone recommends the 9800 over the nvidia even though the ati has less ram. I know there is a 256 ati, but its not what is recommended usually because of its price.

The 9800 performance will rock the 5600's block, despite the difference in ram... The fx series of Nvidia cards are generally something to stay away from, they have hardware limitations that ram will not compensate for.

I believe the 5900ultra and 9800pro are closer in performance than the 9800pro and a 5600 anyways. So if you want to compare prices on comparable cards that is what you should be comparing. ;)

I think that's basically why you get the responses you have.

There realy isnt any need for 256mb at this time, and I believe that when you DO need it to run highest settings in games, any card out today wouldnt be running it at highest settings anyway.

I would also have to agree with this but being as I have never had a 256 I have not actually tested this yet but if you just plan on using it for gaming a 128 should be plenty.

If ups is paying for it why not. The 9800 pro 128 meg is a great card i have one and I can play every game with all settings maxed. I mean everything all open gl and d3d sliders to optimal quality and all game specific graphic options maxed. The only slowdown I've ever gotten is in call of duty when plying online with maxed settings with a whole lot of firefighting going on. I'm not sure if another 256mb's of ram would help that but it sure wouldn't hurt it.

Hi All,

This review did a lot of testing with all the ATI cards and really shows how the 128 meg cards compared to the 256 megs cards. At this time the 128 meg card seems to be a better buy for the buck.

Well this is just for CoD, It's not a very broad scoped benchmark. I'd have to think that the XT will have a better time of games that are up and coming soon than the 128 pro. New Doom etc

If UPS is buyin, go for the 9800XT!!!! You might as well max your gain dood! Current games won't show a huge difference in performance w/ the 256 ddr over the 128, but the 256 card will offer more longevity. I'm guessing within the next year or so, you'll start noticing a bigger difference in performance between 256 cards and 128.

BTW: Go ATi right now... nVidia cards are slower. If you want the best performance for your money, go 9800 all the way!

Of course a 9800XT. It's more than just have more video RAM than a 9800Pro. It is the best card out there.

UPS is buying for you because they damaged your package?

USPS destroyed more than just 1 package of mine, and I could say nothing because I didn't put insurance on them. Since then I put insurance on everything, but nothing has being damaged yet. Not sure if they treat the packages differently depended on whether there is insurance or not.

This is why I don't understand why some companies are making FX 5200's with 256mb. Does having more ram make it better for playing DVDs or something? I can't imagine that a game with settings that would take advantage of that much ram could possibly run smoothly on that card. "Sure, I only get 11 frames per second, but LOOK at that image quality!"

256mb has nothing to do with DVD's (a 16mb card can play them fine)- it has to do more with maxing out AA and FSAA and that when you do that on some games the 256mb cards have the exrta head room and run smoother as opposed to 128mb cards.

Dont even consider the FX line - end of story - even the 5900ULTRA + are not worthy if you compare them in tests using DX9.
