Hi guys. I'm gonna attempt my first overclock on my trusty old Athlon 500, as it is starting to show its age now. I know i'm going to need a gold finger wotsit and a new heatsink and fan, can anyone suggest a good one for SLOT A ?
Also what is a realistic figure to aim for? i was gonna go for 600MHZ to make sure i dont fry anything, does that sound about right? or could i push it further safely?

i didnt wanna do this, but BUMP
I overclocked mine with a gfd that i bought off ebay
i then ungraded my heatsink and fan to a thermaltake gold orb 18 bucks and got a good overclock with low temps
i would definitly buy a thermaltake orb and upgrade your psu if its old too

thanks for the info, i heard those orb heatsinks arent up to much though? that true? and you sure it will fit a SLOT A athlon?
Orb coolers are not that great for overclocking. I would get something like an Alpha P7125, Alpha P125c or a Globalwin VOS32. The Globalwin is probably the best bet since it is less expensive and cools just as well as the Alphas. Just make sure that you have enough clearence for a large heatsink.

Ok i have an ASUS K7M mobo so its kinda tight with the power supply plugging in right next to the heatsink... do you think cutting away a few fins will severely affect cooling?
I think i'll pull the whole PC to bits this weekend, it needs a thourough de-dusting anyway! i might open up the CPU itself

sorry.....double post for the first time
Email the guys at 2cooltek.com and ask what heatsinks will fit your motherboard. They should be very helpful over there.
