Wow, I must say I'm quite disappointed with Square on this one... This also makes the first game in the series that I was disappointed with.

First off the story isn't that great. I'm not gonna give any spoilers, so I'll just leave it at that.

Second, even though its supposed to be a sequel to FFX, the game should throw in some new stuff... Basically they made 1 new character, turned the sphere grid into dress spheres, and used the exact same game. The map is identical, all the same places, all the same monsters. Yes, all the same monsters... They didnt even draw up new monsters, they just used the EXACT same ones from FFX.

Finally and the biggest thing that ruined this game in my opinion... Arent the FF games supposed to be long? Like those 70 hour final save times in FF7 etc. I thought so too until I played this game... My final save was 18 hours. I have no idea what I did 'wrong' to beat it that fast, so I'm guessing the game is just short. By the way, I dont use strategy guides or walk throughs of any sort.

All of a sudden after beating a pathetic boss in roughly 3 minutes without a single character dieing, and watching a very short (another 3 minutes) cinematic sequence at the end, I saw credits flying by. I'm thinking WTF?!?!

So aside from just griping about the game, the moral of this post is; rent this game over a weekend, dont waste your money. I was a huge fan of FFX and the series and still I think this game was horrible.

Ohh well. If anyone is stuck I can help you out :p

it IS different, ill give you that, but i like it. Thats all that matters. You dont like it, dont play it. You like it, you play it....simple.

I think that's why it's FFX2, not FFXII.

I didn't like ffx thought it was too linear..... loved the NES and SNES FF games and I only liked FF7 and FF9 on the PS. Thought they should have stuck with tradition, but whatever. Might look at FFXII, but I feel the last FF game I may get into is FFXI cause it seems to play along the same lines of the NES and SNES ff games. IMHO...just my 2 cents worth

I kinda think the FF series is on its last leg. Never been too big a fan of it but its been declining since VIII i thought, and now is to the point where they have to make sequels to keep it intersting enough.

FF 3, 7 9 and 11 are my most favorite (havent played FF 1 + 2 in a while so cant remember) I think 8 was horrible and havent played X or X-2. so cant comment on those

I bought the latest FF (4 disks wtf). Actually for my fiancee, anyway, I installed it & the servers were all down.

Can you play this game offline? Or is this online only?

you can play through the game extremely fast or extremely slow. there are certain things that must be done before the chapter is complete, and you can go right to those things, or you can explore some. what percentage was your final save? i imagine it was quite low at only 18 hours. it has different endings based on percentage completion.

I rented FF x2 over the weekend adn too was dissapointed with it, i played for an hour before i said screw it. I fail to see how playing dress up is fun. Job system i can understand, warrior, ninja, thief fine. But at what point is "Pop Singer" An effective combat method. And "Dress spheres" As an adult male this is not for me. However some good did come out of the experiance, i decided to play FFIX again and am likely going to hit up VII once done it.

hmmm, 18 hours? that sucks. I too would expect at least 50 hrs if not 70 or 80. Is the game meant to be a normall FF length? whats with this pop singer stuff, you are scaring me. and it really is the same areas with the same monsters? surely there must be some changes?

edit:

well after reading through some reviews, I am excited again. From what i can tell there is supposed to be 60-80 hrs of gameplay. more mini games than any other game before it, and the newgame+ feature sounds nice. cant wait. :D

Were those 60-80 hrs of play given by Square, or the review places?

The ones from manufaturers are not to be trusted... Enter The Matrix was advertised as 40+, and i did both characters in about 6.

FFXI is so tempting though... Must stay away, must not succumb to addiction....:p

that was from the ign review. it sounds like you can fly right through this game and beat it by ignoring side quests and such. that is not what i intend to do.

Well, when I play games I like to take my time and do all the side stuff. That was mainly why I was so disappointed. My 18 hour final save was 72% complete. The thing is, the way the game is set up, it % really means very little. There are certain missions that count toward your final % that you can ONLY do at certain points in the game. Basically there are 5 chapters, and certain missions can only be done in certain chapters. The problem is the game actually tries to make you rush through it...

I'll explain. You get 'hot spots' on your map that you must go to in order to advance the story. As youre going through these hot spots, which the game tells you to go to basically, all of a sudden 'Chapter Complete'.

So yea there is more to the game, but it involves playing it over and over many times. That is why they made a 'Saved Game+' feature, where you can start over again with the same % complete you finished with last time. It's kinda like those 'Choose Your Own Adventure' books when you were a kid. You gotta go through it multiple times to get 100%.

And as far as the game taking 60-80 hours... whoever wrote that review mustve been retarded. I really dont see how it could take that long. I went back to my last save and did some lvling and tried finding more side quests after beating the game. It took me 2 HOURS to lvl up my party from 70-99. I really dont see how you could even spend 60-80 hours even if you got 100%. I also did the 2 hardest side quests in the game after that. The 100 level dungeon took 3 hours, and it is considered to be THE HARDEST.

Ohh and as far as dress spheres... It is a bit on the gay side, but it's basically just jobs.

Basically, I was just saying you might be disappointed if you buy this game, because as a big FF fan I was very disappointed. I'll follow up with a post of my 100% game when I get there. I started a new game and I'm trying to do EVERYTHING this time. I can tell you right now its not gonna be anywhere near 80 hours. I'm already 88% with 30 hours on my New Game+, and that includes the 18 hours spent from the first time playing through...

thanks for the detailed info/explanation.

29 lvls in 2 hours!!!
i wish it was like that in XI ;)
ive logged 216 hours and am only at lvl 28 :D

i heard there was a new mini game that is better than blitzball. true?

In my opinion they ruined blitzball... You can no longer control the players, just watch it and give the team general strategy. Like formations, pass order, etc.

Then there is a Sphere Break mini game. It's alright if you like math. Its honestly quite easy once you know one basic strategy. (PM me if you want to know how I beat Chapter 5 Shinra in 11 rounds) It's not really fun either, more like 'you need to play if you want good rewards'.

Then there are the Calm Lands. Which is a bunch of minigames, very much like the Golden Saucer from FF7. Again I didnt really find any of these fun, but might just be me.

What do you expect. After so many people were mad at the ending of FFX they tried to fix the problem with a second one. And instead of fixing the "problem" they just made it worse. IMO

All i want to know is what the hell happened to the world map free movement in rpgs. This abliity to roam the world and explore every piece of it at your own pace was always my favorite part of rpgs but lately a few of my favorite game series have been opting for the retarded kid way of progressing through the game. Were stupid kids getting lost or something? Now its just map with cities highlighted and you click on them....... whats the fun in that is so linear and murders your freewill.
