View Full Version : ARG... ARGA Chip from Newegg
A friend of mine just got a TBird 1GHz/266. We were expecting an AXIA or better, but strangely we received an ARGA Chip. I have heard that these may have been older steppings used in conjunction with the /200 chips, but this is a new /266 chip with a purple core. He will check it out tonight, but I am just curious whether one of you has come across one of these, and what the predictions are. They are not well represented in the CPU database.
Thanks

I haven't heard much, but what I have heard is that they don't go much higher than 1200 or so.
According to the Athlon OC stepping chart it will do 1300 on average, but their chart seems high, I suspect somewhere in the 1200-1250 range.
Thanks for the replies. It looks like he got it to run at 1133 so far with no go at 1200, even with 1.92 volts. So I guess these are somehow duds compared to AXIA. I am still surprised though, AMD must have moved the older steppings into the 1GHz range. Oh well yet another reason to attend computer shows.
