I'm a bit confused with the prologic II capabilities of the Logitech Z680s. Right now I'm using the SPDIF output of the NF7-S (Soundstorm audio) and I have the analog outputs for the fronts, rears, sub and center channel hooked up as well. I generally use the optical output for everything except for when I watched TV, as the ATi MMC software seems to have a problem optical output (I get no sound when I use it).
Anyway for Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS DVDs I have no problem. But with other two channel sources I would like to take advantage of the prologic capabilities. For things like Divx video files it seems to work pretty well through the optical output, although the voices aren't very well centered (I don't expect it to be perfect though). But when I'm playing anything with the optical output, I'm unable to change the effect on the Logitech control panel (it just displays dolby digital). If I switch over to the analog output though, I'm able to play around with the effects.
Is this the case for everyone else? I'm a bit confused because recently I tried Cyberlink Powerdvd, and to my surprise I was able to change the effect when using the optical output if the DVD was only a two channel source.
Furthermore, I played around with other software (such as Showshifter) for TV in order to be able to use the optical output all of the time. Unlike the ATI MMC software, I do get sound through the optical output when watching TV, however, I can never get any sound out of the rears and I'm not able to change the effect there either. Like with the ATI software, when I switch over to analog I can change the effect to prologic II and get sound from all five speakers (though it seems to work with some stereo channels while with some others I only get sound out of the center, another thing that confuses me).
Anyway I'd like to be able to get rid of the analog altogether but still be able to change the effects. I've searched around the Logitech site and forums and haven't been able to find much info on this so hopefully some others here can share their experiences with the Z680s.
Thanks for your time
