View Full Version : why Fold instead of Unite?

I used to run United Devices (http://www.ud.com/home.htm) but I have now changed to folding. I believe UD came from Stanford or Berkley, I can't remember but it seems much more developed and seems like they have much more backing from corporate and government funding. I just don't want to work on a project and then all my computer time is wasted when the work isn't useful(don't mean they need to find a cure from my work). Why was the Stanford folding project selected instead of United Devices Project?

Sort of like going to a basketball court and asking why they don't play football since it's so much more fun?

Stanofrd just released some new papers with their latest result, bring the total to 14. Some very interesting discoveries have been made. Read about it at the folding project homepage- http://folding.stanford.edu

Personally I think Stanford's folding@home project has broader scope than UD.

Very good question. I can think of a few possibilities, maybe Folding was the only thing around then, maybe someone knew about folding and not about UD or maybe somebody just read up on both and decided they liked folding better. Who knows? Both are very worthy causes in my opinion and if you choose to do either of them thats just great. I find that folding is really community oriented and I like the fact that I can talk to the guys on the team. That is part of the reason why I have stuck to the program for so long. Team Spirit and a great cause, its a wonderful project.
