View Full Version : AMD 1.2Ghz Power or Cooling Problem
I have a Abit KT7A-RAID running a athlon 1.2, with a 300 watt power supply, the cpu is running at a range of 100F-113F and the computer locks up, would you say it's a power issue or a cooling issue?

Is your power supply AMD approved to run at 1.2 gigs? is your cpu overclocked? what is the voltage? what program is it locking up in (burn program, game, or windows desktop)? is your cooling set up like AMD recommends at this link http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/athlon/pdf/cooling_guide.pdf ? sorry for all the questions, but I need more information:)

i assume 113F is under load, and that isn't a bad temp to have for 1.2 tbird.

1.2 not overclocked, freezed with anything running, you name it, it will, the heat sink is amd apporved, 1.75v the power supply is a compusa one, it is set up like amd says it should
Try using BIOS ver 3R and install VIA 4in1 version 4.32. I was having all kinds of lock ups. I was about to throw my entire system out the Window and go with Intel until I upgrade those two. I am running rock stable at 1378 Mhz (145x9.5).
Athlon 1.2 @ 1.38
KT7A

mojo thanks alot for the tip, the bios flashed helped, and know hopefully my sound blaster live will work properly, and crashing i hope.
I agree, 3R and the 4.32's are great. I had a few problems
before I installed these two. PC is very stable now!

Heres something that should help it cleared up the freezes on my system, except the comp reboots itself some times underload. Goto Device manager , then Creative Miscellaneous Devices click that tab , then where it says Creative SB16 Emulation , DISABLE THAT!. Btw download sisoftsandra and check how many things you have on each IRQ you don't want that sound blaster card sharing like 5 IRQs with other stuff. Except the PCI steering for it. GL man keep posting I know how you feel I had the same problems.
thanks for the help everyone, i hope i can get all the bugs worked out, cause i really want to overclock this badboy
about the 3R bios, now i feel like a real rookie, i found it, getting ready to flash bios hope it works, let you know after done flashing
something went horribly wrong with the bios flash with ver 3R, now i have a 1.2 with no motherboard, i have to wait a week to get a new one.
Hummer. what happened to your mobo after you flashed to 3R? A lot of people are using 3R fine, it's quite stable. If your mobo is fried, I doubt the BIOS killed it. In any case I'm sorry to hear. Anyway here's the link to the 3R bios. It's from Abit official site, not a hacked BIOS or anything.

it seemd to flash fine, when it rebooted it was beeping at me, and no picture, so rebooted again, got a picture everything seemed ok, while in setup, the screen when wacky, so then i cleard the cmos set the cpu to 1200(133) rebooted no picture and still beeping. so i put in the motherboard be for i got the abit, so i still have a pc
Good news board is fine, i let it sit for a while with the battery out and with the cmos jumper set to reset, then i reflashed the bios, no problems system is stable!! thanks to you guys for your help i greatly appreciate it
