View Full Version : Is there anyway to solve soundcard problem with via chipsets?
I have switched from SB Live to Hercules card. I still get the same problem with locks up, system not booting, etc. I downloaded and install all the lastest BOIS, drivers, blah blah blah. Nothing works. I have a KT7A.

Have you tried the various pci timeout settings? Forcing the card to use 1 DMA? I found that people have actually had to downgrade their bioses sometimes with this issue. Go to http://viahardware.com and read the kt7a faq, I beliieve there's additional info about the 686b bug and a few settings that you may fiddle with in your quest.

Are you sure that's the soundcard or something else ?
Have you installed the VIA 4in1 drivers? I would recommend the 4.32 load, and install them in Safe Mode.
I've got that board over here running with bios 3r and the 4in1 drivers. I've got a sound blaster live running sans problem.
It ran great even without the bios update or the 4in1s for that matter. Maybe you need to do a little pci musical chairs and move the card into a different slot.
Or run without sound card at all for a day and see if the machine still locks up.
Also, check the IRQs. Might be a conflict there. Try forcing it to an IRQ in your BIOS, if you can.
