Is there any way to either disconnect the speaker manually or with software?
Or can I pull out some wires from the modem?

If you are running XP, go to Control Panel, Internet Options, Connections, and the Settings box.
Go down to Dial Up Settings, and click the Properties box. On the General tab, click the Configure box, and then clear the Enable Modem Speaker box.

2 Things
1)I'm running WIN2K
2)I clicked modem speaker in the modem properties and it still doesn't work.
Any Ideas?

Then you have to use the old Hayes-strings... Try to look here (http://www.modemhelp.org/)

Restart after making the change? ;)

Here is the next thing to try. It might not work because you probably have a Winmodem, and they don't necessarily respond to Hayes AT commands.
Go to Control Panel, Phone and Modem Options, Modems tab, Properties, Advanced. Type ATM0 (that is a zero) in the Extra Settings box. If that doesn't work, try just the M0.

Usually the speaker cant be controlled because you are using a generic driver.

I could turn it down when I used a modem, but it would randomly turn back on so I took some pliers and pulled it off... it worked fine and quitly:D

But it MIGHT depend on the modem, still I doubt that the speaker being gone would mess anything at all up.
I used to superglue Q-tip heads into the dyaphram hole to shut em up, but that was a while before win 98. Im not sure but I think that you need to go into the connection properties as well as the modem properties and deselct a speaker tab. Its been a long time since ive messed with a modem.

Yes I think so if memory serves me right.. Havent used a dial up modem in years. I'd wait for someone to confirm it but that sounds like the speaker.

Sounds like it from the description. It's a slight risk but you could just physically disconnect it.

To post a picture you need to host it somehwere on the net (you can have another member here do it, I do and a number of others do as well) and then you jsut put it in http://picture.jpg the tags and do that, or you can attach them now:D (but only a certain size there, so not huge ones really)
